Saga ⁓ a serial novel

Saga is a serial novel, told in episodes. It's set on Tenerife, the largest of the Canary Islands, a volcano off the coast of Africa, in the spring of 2041. The world has been mostly quiet for twelve years: the flights stopped landing, the cargo ships stopped coming, and the internet stopped working, in that order. Some people left while they could. Some chose to stay.

This is a story about the ones who stayed ⁓ and about Saga, who was born into the quiet and grew up finding it completely normal.

Each episode is told as an installment of a small radio program called Nivaria ⁓ the old Roman name for this island ⁓ broadcast to nobody in particular from somewhere in the cloud forest. Saga is Swedish for story. Her mother chose it.

What happens next involves a trap door, a fog machine, a grandmother on a scooter, and a speech toy from 1987 ⁓ at a hundred and ten decibels. ~27 min Episode 25 Sila Two old friends, three days, and a town that nobody designed. The water stops, the walk up the line is the tour ⁓ and somebody has been quietly keeping the whole valley running without calling it a job. ~32 min Episode 26 Torbellino One ordinary Thursday, from inside a very old dog. The count, the coat, a feather on a wall ⁓ and the thing about the card act that nobody in La Tropa has worked out in nine years. ~20 min Episode 27 Incidencias August 2026, and the pines above El Tanque are burning. The plaza works out who he is in about five minutes. A broom is fetched and put back. A wine case is lined with cashmere. And the last man on this coast without a mesh node finds he has a question to ask. ~17 min Episode 30 Lǎojiā Ten past three in the morning in Tchintián: one dropped packet out of nine hundred, and a message from a woman on a mountain she has never met. Sowing week above La Orotava, four names for three stars, and a county in Zhejiang the quarter is named after that almost nobody in it has ever seen. ~14 min Episode 31 Guagua The night of the thirteenth of March, 2028, and the road down to Icod. A maternity ward with four people left in it, a hospital running out the last of its diesel, and a word that means the bus in one language and the baby in another. ~31 min Episode 32 one pass Four in the morning in the nook, and not much of her running. Talvin wants numbers, the carve wants an afternoon, and Anna wants to argue about burdock. A day in December 2042, told for once from the inside ⁓ in the units she keeps it in. ~19 min
